Mesquite Elementary School

Mesquite Elementary's dedicated mountain lion pack is committed to providing an educational environment in which all students achieve academic excellence, strong interpersonal skills, self-esteem and physical growth/development. The WHOLE child develops at Mesquite. They offer a full day Building Blocks preschool (4 years old) and Amanecer preschool, a full day kindergarten, a gifted program and a community school. They're also hosting the Performance Academy program. Mesquite Elementary has strong education and service learning partnerships with Gilbert High School, CGCC/NAU Teacher Prep, First Things First and local businesses.

Mesquite is proud to be a FUTP60 (NFL Fuel Up To Play 60) school assessing the need for students to be active to be healthy. Mesquite offers a variety of clubs for students to participate in: STEM Club, Oceanography Club, Mesquite Theater, FUTP60 Club, MOVERS Club, NEHS and more! Mesquite prides itself on being a safe, "joyful," supportive, inclusive, best place to work and learn, providing an exceptional educational experience for all children. Students are tackling new situations with Grit & Grace. The shared decision-making of staff, students and parents focuses on the Rigor, Relevance and Relationships.

School Programs

Arts Education Program

The curriculum of the Mesquite Elementary School of Art recognizes that involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills. Involvement in the art program can also improve motivation, concentration, trust and teamwork. Their highly experienced team of Art Teachers creates a choice-based learning environment in which students are encouraged to develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills while pursuing a learning scale and sequence that meets both objectives and standards.

Their vision is to promote the ability of student artists to develop and implement a visual idea. The aim is to develop an appropriate continuum of artistic behavioral expectations. The elementary art education program provides instruction for kindergarten through 6th grade students and uses a range of mediums and techniques, including drawing, painting, clay/ceramics, 3D art, collage, fiber and printmaking.

Music Education Programs

The Mesquite Elementary School has a tradition of high-quality and expansive musical offerings in Pre K–12. Their highly qualified and certified music teachers, along with their students, demonstrate on a daily basis that an effective music program contributes to the education and personal enrichment of the child as a whole.

Gilbert Public Schools is recognized at national and national level for its outstanding music programs. The Gilbert music programs locally are an integral part of the Gilbert community. The music staff boast more Nationally Certified Teachers than any other district in the state of Arizona. The list of awards and awards for our teachers, schools and individual students is a testament to the commitment to excellence of Gilbert's music program.

Gifted Program

Each student enrolled in Grades 3 and 5 will be screened for Gifted Potential and further Gifted Testing unless the parents/guardians choose to opt out of this Blanket Screening. For students not enrolled in Grades 3 or 5, a Gifted Testing Application may be completed by the parent/guardian to request consideration for Gifted Testing.

Gilbert Public Schools is currently using the state-approved CogAT Form 7 computer-based assessment to identify students for Gifted Services. Students who score in the 95th percentile are eligible for Gift Services and will receive specific information on the services available to qualified students through their enrolled school site.
