Baseline Road is a major east-west thoroughfare. This road is called by the fact that it runs the length of Arizona's principal baseline, as defined by the Public Land Survey System. This line extends east-west from Avondale Boulevard (115th Avenue) at Baseline Road to the "zero point" atop a hill near the junction of the Gila and Salt rivers. This location is close to the Phoenix Raceway. The north-south base meridian, known as the Gila and Salt River meridian, is where Avondale Boulevard is located.

Baseline is not continuous due to natural impediments. Baseline Road's longest continuous stretch is about 43 kilometers long. The road runs through Maricopa and Pinal counties. In southern La Paz County, along the Colorado River and Arizona's baseline, there is also a rural road known as Baseline Road.

The name for the road is applied for non-contiguous sections because of the grid layout employed by communities in Arizona, and it is theoretically saved for future east-west routes built at the same latitude.

The Eastern Canal Trail is a 15.5-mile paved and unpaved pathway that runs beside the Eastern Canal in Mesa, Gilbert, and Chandler in the Phoenix metropolitan area's southeast.

There are paved and unpaved sections on the Eastern Canal Trail. The canal runs beside the footpath, and there are several street crossings. Bike riding, walking, and running are all permitted on the trail.

The Eastern Canal Path runs the entire length of its namesake waterway in suburban Phoenix, passing through Mesa, Gilbert, and Chandler. The pathway, which has a nice paved surface at times and coarse gravel at other times, connects surrounding homes, schools, and parks.

This route from Baseline Road to Eastern Canal Path runs through the city of Gilbert, just outside of Mesa and Phoenix, along a manicured greenway in an overhead electric utility line. The trail extends north to Baseline Road from a confluence with the Eastern Canal Path at Crossroads Park's eponymous river. The route runs through a lot of residential areas and provides a great recreational opportunity for locals while also connecting them to the many businesses along Baseline Road.

Crossroads Park (2155 E. Knox Road) in Gilbert has parking and facilities for the Baseline Road to Eastern Canal Path.
